We are currently seeking candidates for all levels of positions, including postdoctoral researchers, lab technicians, graduate students, and undergraduate students. If you have an interest in genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, live imaging, disease modeling, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, we strongly encourage you to get in touch with us.
(1) Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Positions
The Bai Lab at University of Florida (Gainesville), Department of Biology, is actively seeking a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral fellow and multiple Ph.D. candidates to join our research group. As a postdoctoral fellow and graduate student, the candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to exciting projects centered around modeling human diseases in the nematode model Caenorhabditis elegans. Our current research endeavors primarily focus on unraveling the intricacies of disease-genes associated with mechanotransduction, lipid droplet, lipid metabolism, fatty acid synthesis, reproduction, germline development, and early embryonic development.
The candidates will be encouraged to develop and explore their own research ideas, while actively collaborating with both intramural and extramural colleagues. Together, we aim to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying these disease-associated genes, which will help advancing our understanding of their profound implications for human health.
Qualifications:
Qualified postdoctoral candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, bioinformatics, or a related field. Proficiency in genetics, imaging, molecular biology techniques and experience in utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing methodologies are highly desirable. Prior experience working with C. elegans will be considered favorably. A strong publication record demonstrating research productivity and showcasing the ability to independently design and conduct experiments is essential. The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate research findings and collaborate with colleagues.
Qualified Ph.D. candidates are required to hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in biology or related field. Prior experience working with genetic model systems specifically C. elegans or Drosophila as well as CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, will be considered favorably.
How to Apply:
The Bai Lab is strongly committed to cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment for all our trainee and employees. Furthermore, the University of Florida provides a vibrant scientific community with numerous interdisciplinary collaborations and career development opportunities. More information about the lab and research can be found at the lab website: https://bailab.biology.ufl.edu. The position is open until filled.
The candidates are responsible for managing the submission of three recommendation letters directly to Dr. Bai baixiaofei@ufl.edu .
Please submit the application package, including:
(1) Curriculum Vitae;
(2) a cover letter outlining your qualifications (1-2 pages);
(3) research interest (2-3 pages) through the link below:
(4) Please email Dr. Bai baixiaofei@ufl.edu once you submit the application, so he will review your application at his earliest convenience.
Prospective Ph.D. candidates must apply the program through UF graduate system. The Bai lab accepts applications from the students enrolled in the graduate program offered by either the Department of Biology (Zoology) (https://biology.ufl.edu/graduate-programs/), the Genetics Institute (http://ufgi.ufl.edu/grad-program/) and Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (https://biomed.med.ufl.edu/). Candidates interested in the Department of Biology should be responsible for submitting three recommendation letters directly to Dr. Bai. After being shortlisted, the candidate will need to participate a virtual interview. More information about the lab and research can be found at the lab website: https://bailab.biology.ufl.edu. The positions are open from 2023 Fall semester until filled.
(2) Lab Technician Position
The Bai Lab at University of Florida (Gainesville), Department of Biology, is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a research technician. As a research technician in the Bai Lab, the candidate will help advance our research goals focused on modeling human diseases in the nematode model Caenorhabditis elegans. The candidate will be responsible for generating C. elegans strains using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technique, maintaining the lab strain collections, and assisting with various molecular experiments and genetic screening. The position will be one-year guaranteed, and possible for the second year extension.
Qualifications:
The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field. Strong knowledge and practical experience in molecular biology techniques are particular encouraged. Proficiency in CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and working experience with C. elegans is highly desirable. The candidate should also have excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
How to Apply:
The Bai Lab is strongly committed to cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment for all our trainees and employees. If you are eager to be part of the groundbreaking research in modeling human diseases, we would love to hear from you! To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your qualifications and research experience to Dr. Xiaofei Bai at baixiaofei@ufl.edu. The candidates are responsible for managing the submission of at least two recommendation letters directly to Dr. Bai.
